Reflections on the 2024 Seafood Expo

It was great to catch up with colleagues that we've worked with throughout the year and meet some new clients and potential partners at the 2024 Seafood Expo in Barcelona. Sustainability was at the forefront of the Expo.

In Verifact we work on sustainability and food safety projects with many seafood clients. We run nine Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs) which are funded by Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM- Ireland's Seafood Development Agency). It was great to get the opportunity to speak with Sustainable Fisheries Partnership about our current FIP work and upcoming developments in FIPs. It was also great to talk to the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) team in advance of them coming to visit us at our Cork office later this month.

There is an increased emphasis on circular economy initiatives which are focused on reducing, reusing, repurposing. We saw some exciting and innovative circular economy products using fish skin to make shoes and bags. We are already looking forward to next years show!
